【In Short】What Is Domain and Sub domain Name? Define Domain and Subdomain.

 What Is Domain Name ?


A domain name is an identifying cord that defines the scope of administrative freedom, authorization, or control within the web. Domain names are used in various networking connections and for application-specific naming and address targets.

They perform under the Domain Name System (DNS), which is typically the address book of the Internet that maintains direct visitors to your website by decoding the name into its related IP address number sequence and locating where the resource is saved.


Types of Domain Name -

1.  Top-Level Domain [TLD] 
     
These are at the most powerful and top level in the DNS structure of the Internet. 
 For examples - .com, .net, .org, .edu, .name, .biz, .info, .gov

2.  Country code Top-Level Domain [CcTLD] 
     
This type of domain is mostly used for a particular country.
For examples - .in, .cn, .ru, .br, .ch

There are also many types of domain name like, 
       
3. Generic Top-Level Domain [gTLD] 

4. IND ccTLD - Internationalized Country Code Top-Level Domain

5. Second Level Domain

6. Third Level Domain

7. Subdomain.

What Is Sub Domain Name?

Sub domain is a further part to your main domain name. Sub domains are built to order and operate to different segments of your website. You can create various sub domains or minor domains on your main domain like .ac.uk, .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk etc. 

For example- company.yourwebsite.com
In this example, 'company' is the sub domain, ‘yourwebsite’ is the main domain and ‘.com’ is the top level domain (TLD). You can use any text as your sub domain, but you've to make sure that it’s easy to type and learn.
